Hey Ya'll! Just another stop today on our week getaway in Alabama! We had our art stop now here is an education of history stop. We came to the Florence Indian Mound Museum. This is a great place to check out if you enjoy this type of trip. If you want to exert some energy with the kids, let them climb the stairs to the mound, lol. It's really a fun trip, and you and the kids can learn and see a lot about the Indians of this area.

This museum was redesigned few years ago and looks amazing. It's small but gives an in-depth look at local indigenous life around the time the mound was constructed. The mound itself was gifted to the City of Florence in 1945; unfortunately, the encircling wall has been destroyed. The mound and museum are located in an industrial part of town and you can get a good look at the surrounding industrial area from the top of the mound, which you ARE allowed to walk up and walk on top of. The volunteers inside are very knowledgeable and can give you a really good idea of the history of the mound, its preservation, and archeological findings.

I visited in April, but my opinion remains the same: simply awesome. Spoke with the docent, we discovered a mutual connection in Arizona and/or about AZ.

The museum and site were fantastic. Treat yourself today!

Great experience and good information! Enjoyed walking around the museum before we climbing up to the summit so we could think about the artifacts that would've been found at each layer! ?
