SAVE YOUR SANITY AND DO NOT PURCHASE

I hate to leave such a negative review, but there the buyer experience with Tri Pointe Homes was an absolute nightmare. It began with a general interest in the community. My partner and I had called to set up an appointment to visit the community with our relator. We arrived on the site and were given the cold shoulder and were quickly brushed off by the sales team. When we were able to speak with a sales agent, we were told that our timeframe was too long and really didn’t fit the current timeline of the community.

Fast forward a few weeks and we noticed that Citro was running a special where if you reserved a lot, you would receive a $50,000 design center credit AND an interest rate of 5.65%. My partner and I discussed this and made the call back to the community. We arrived and learned that one of the lots had fallen out of contract and that it would be ready by the end of June (lot 479). The purchase price was $798,000. Now I don’t put this figure out there for nothing – it becomes important soon.

We toured the specific lot and decided that we wanted to move forward with reserving it. The whole mood of the office changed. We were asked if we wanted water or soda, if we wanted a snack, and everyone was super friendly. Once we got into the details, we were informed that the previous buyers allegedly put in $100,000 of upgrades to the home prior to them backing out – we should have followed their lead. Therefore, we were not eligible for the $50,000 promotion. In lieu of this, we were informed that the seller would take $50,000 off the purchase price.

The sales representative printed off a worksheet with a purchase price of $748,000 and an interest rate of 5.65%. The representative went to grab something from her manager and came back and said “Oh, you actually don’t qualify for the $50,000 credit towards the purchase price.” She then printed off another worksheet with the same interest rate but now a purchase price of $798,000.

We decided to move forward with entering into the contract despite this flip-flopping. We signed the documents and provided our deposit. Now this deposit was $17,000. Seemed really high for us and was a good chunk of our savings. About a week after signing the documents, we were informed that we did not qualify for the interest rate of 5.65% because the purchase price of the home did not exceed $799,000. To say I was shocked is an understatement.

This company knows what they are doing. They are manipulative, aggressive, calling multiple times a day to receive the contact and deposit, and unresponsive. My partner and I decided we wanted out of the contact. We sent emails, texts, phone calls, and no response. I escalated this to the regional office manager, and she too did not return my calls, nor emails. She promised to get back to me within 24 hours – failed to do so.

All in all, please save your time, effort, and money. Tri Pointe homes cannot be trusted and they will do everything they can to keep your deposit, but fight! Don’t let them bully you!
